Where to spend your weekend in Athens
In honor of it being Friday
Athens is truly the city that never sleeps. Whether you’re in the mood for great food, cozy coffee spots, or vibrant nightlife, this guide will help you make the most of your time in the city. Here are my local recommendations for where to eat, drink, and experience the best of Athens.
Pro Tip: Life here starts late! Dinner is at 9:00 or later and the party doesn’t truly start until after midnight. So get a good nap in, and get ready for a late night!
Restaurants
Dopios – Located in the heart of Athens, Dopios offers a modern take on traditional Greek meze. It’s the perfect place to share small plates with friends. Their untraditional take on gyros (faux gyros) is my favorite dish.
Gloria Gati – This charming spot in Kolonaki is ideal for a date night. Gloria Gati serves delicious Italian cuisine, and their cozy candle-lit ambiance makes it a great choice for a romantic meal. Try their vodka pasta!
Taratsa – A newer rooftop in the center of Athens, Taratsa offers stunning views of the city along with tasty Greek-Middle Eastern flavors. It’s a great place to enjoy a meal with soaking in the views of the Acropolis. The shawarma is a must!
Coffee Spots
Hippy Hippo – Situated in Koukaki, Hippy Hippo is a cozy coffee shop with a relaxed local vibe and great brunch. Grab a Freddo Cappuccino and enjoy the people watching.
Ermou 18 Beyond the Horizon – Located right on Ermou Street, this rooftop is tucked away and it one of my favorite spots to stop during a shopping day. Perfect for a quick coffee break and to take in the views.
Bars
Wild Poppies – Situated in Syntagma, Wild Poppies has a chic asian style interior with great music, food and cocktails. The perfect spot for a night of dancing.
Rock n Roll – Located in Kolonaki, Rock n Roll is a lively bar that offers great music, and a fun atmosphere. A go-to for a night out with friends.
Zuka – This stylish bar in Kolonaki is known for its creative cocktails and chic interior. Zuka’s live music and party-centric atomophere is an ideal spot to start your night.
